The Social Work Census aims to:

  • Gather and share information on the social work profession based on survey data from as many social workers as possible in the United States and the 10 provinces of Canada

The online survey is open from March 1, 2024, and remain open until May 31, 2024.

What is the Social Work Workforce Coalition?

The Social Work Workforce Coalition is made up of representatives from various social work organizations, degree programs, and employers from United States and Cananda. The coalition met for the first time in April 2022 by invitation of the ASWB to provide input on emerging trends in social work practice for the examination development process.

How will the Social Work Census data be used?

Data collected about the social work workforce and practice will be shared with the profession and be utilized to develop future versions of the social work licensing exams. In addition to providing the first-ever comprehensive report on the profession’s population and characteristics, the results will also ensure the profession’s licensing competence measures are even more reflective of today’s practice.

How do I get the two CEUs?

To receive the two hours of continuing education credit, you must complete the entirety of the survey. You will be sent a certificate to the email address you provide on the survey.

What are the Social Work Census donations?

Census survey participants also have the option of selecting one of 13 organizations selected by the Social Work Workforce Coalition to receive donations. Once the Census survey is completed, respondents have the option to select an organization to receive a $1 donation that will be combined with the donations of other respondents selecting the same organization. ASWB is generously funding donations up to a total of $100,000. Some of the organizations include the Latino Social Workers Organization and the Council on Social Work Education Minority Fellowship Program
